Terms of Service

1. Service and Operator

Civiq (civiq.one) is operated by MBYT LTD, Agias Napas 6, Office 201, 8250 Emba, Paphos, Cyprus (Registration No. HE 477330). Civiq is an open-source platform for direct democracy and civic participation.

2. Eligibility

  • You must be at least 18 years of age to create an account.
  • You must provide a valid, real email address. Pseudonyms for display names are permitted.
  • One account per person. Multiple accounts are not permitted.
  • Accounts created by automated systems (bots) are prohibited.

3. Permitted Use

Civiq is designed for:

  • Participating in public polls and initiatives.
  • Joining or founding political parties on the platform.
  • Engaging in open, respectful civic discussion in accordance with democratic values.
  • Supporting the platform through voluntary donations (no goods or services are provided in exchange).

4. Prohibited Use

The following activities are strictly prohibited:

  • Hate speech, discrimination, or content that incites violence against individuals or groups.
  • Manipulation of voting processes through fake accounts, coordinated inauthentic behaviour, or vote buying.
  • Spam, phishing, or distribution of malware.
  • Impersonating other persons or entities.
  • Scraping or automated harvesting of data without explicit written permission.
  • Any use that violates applicable laws, including but not limited to Cypriot law, EU law, and GDPR.

5. Intellectual Property

The Civiq source code is released under the GNU Affero General Public License v3.0 (AGPL-3.0). You may use, modify, and distribute the code in accordance with the terms of that licence. Content you submit to the platform (polls, votes, comments) remains your property; you grant Civiq a non-exclusive, royalty-free licence to display and aggregate it for the purpose of operating the service.

6. Availability and Changes

We aim for high availability but do not guarantee uninterrupted access to the platform. We reserve the right to suspend, modify, or discontinue any part of the service with reasonable notice. Accounts that violate these Terms may be suspended or terminated.

7. Disclaimer of Warranties

The platform is provided on an "as is" and "as available" basis without warranties of any kind, express or implied. MBYT LTD is not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of the platform.

8. Changes to These Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. Continued use of the platform after changes are posted constitutes acceptance. We will notify registered users by email for material changes.

9. Governing Law and Jurisdiction

These Terms are governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of the Republic of Cyprus. Any disputes arising from or in connection with these Terms shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of Paphos, Cyprus.
